One of the hardest obstacles to overcome when working towards a goal is remaining motivated. It's so easy to get sidetracked and overwhelmed, and can be completely defeating. After reading through other motivational blogs, I've decided to compile a list of my own tips for staying motivated.
1. Keep your end goal in sight.
Whenever you're feeling discouraged, remember that the journey is worth it in the end. Hold on to the main goal that you're working towards. No matter your goal (from reorganizing your closet to becoming a successful CEO), keeping the end in sight will help you stay on task.
2. Utilize resources when you are feeling stuck.
No one can get far all on their own. To avoid feeling overwhelmed, don't forget that it's ok to ask for help or seek out advice. Maybe you have a friend with a particular knack for networking that can help you branch into a new customer base.
3. Don't be afraid to change.
Occasionally you'll run into a circumstance that makes you question if your goal is really what you want. Maybe there's a new job offer or a change in your life that creates tension between your current position and what you're working towards. Being able to adapt to changes is one of the primary features of a successful individual. While change can be scary, try to embrace the differences and see it as a new opportunity.
4. Organize your time efficiently.
This may seem like an obvious point but it's amazing how much it can affect your motivation. Getting behind schedule is so stressful, the best way to avoid this is to make sure you manage your time. Set goals with timing to ensure you are continually working on the project to keep it fresh in your mind. Try not to lapse on the project or leave too much to do all at once. At the same time, it is extremely important to give yourself time off so the work doesn't get stale.
5. Make to-do-lists.
Jotting down a list of things that you need to get done can really help partition the work. By separating each task, and assigning deadlines, you can stay on track in a very visual way. This can help keep you from feeling overwhelmed; lots of little tasks seem less daunting than one huge one. I find this is the best way to track how much I have accomplished and that in turn motivates me to do even more.
These are just some of the many ways you can help to stay motivated to accomplish your goals! Do you have any methods that work for you that I didn't mention? Please comment with any extra advice you may have for fellow readers!
